About Wilkes CCP

Our History & Work

Who We Are

Wilkes County Community Partnership is a community-based non-profit organization which works to improve the quality of life for all citizens of Washington-Wilkes by working to reduce barriers and increase positive factors within our county.

WCCP was originally formed in 1994, through the collaborative efforts of many community leaders. It became a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization in 1996.

WCCP promotes the well-being of Washington-Wilkes children and families, and to that end, over the last few years, our community has seen a reduction in teen pregnancies, fewer adjudicated youth, improved standardized test scores, improved parenting skills, and more children enrolled in Head Start and Pre-K. WCCP has received national, state and regional recognition for its outstanding programs and accomplishments, particularly highlighting its neighborhood-based after-school program, A-STAR (After-School Tutorial and Recreation) which operated for 17 years. WCCP initiated and received the first successful 21st Century Community Learning Center grant for Wilkes County in 2009-2010 through 2011-2012, with 9 centers operating, 4 school sites, and 5 community sites.
